About FactShala:

FactShala is a news and information literacy programme launched in India by Internews with support from a $1,000,000 Google.org grant and the Google News Initiative. Internews will run the program in collaboration with DataLeads.

FactShala is inviting interested journalists, fact-checkers, media faculty members, academics and civil society thought leaders to sign-up to become trainers in the programme and be part of the biggest network of media literacy educators in the country - aka the #JustFacts Task Force!

As FactShala’s ambassadors and trainers, you will work with us over the course of the next year and help adults in non-metro cities and villages of India learn how to sift facts from the sea of online misinformation and help them understand better the nature and characteristics of content published online.

250 selected applicants will be trained by our program and experts on how to make the audience mentioned above be aware before they share and evaluate online information like a pro. Each selected trainer will be required to reach at least 200 people in and around their city and pass on the knowledge they’ve received. They will get ongoing mentorship from experts, and will be entitled to a stipend/honorarium for each workshop they will organise. (We are keeping a close watch on the Covid-19 situation and will announce dates and medium for trainer bootcamps accordingly.)

If you are passionate about fighting mis/disinformation and are committed to help those in your circle and beyond find trustworthy information, we are looking for you!

  • The ideal candidate will be a journalist, fact-checker, media faculty member, academic, or civil society leader residing in a Tier 2 or 3 city.
  • You should be willing to arrange learning and training sessions for at least 200 people in your city and in nearby villages.
  • You need to be committed to be an active member of this task force for at least one year and be generous with helping colleagues achieve the programme goal.
